 Our Lady of Victory Church

Our Lady of Victory Church, located in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Canada, is often referred to as the Igloo Church. It was designed and built by Brother Maurice Larocque, who was a Catholic missionary to the arctic, despite him having no formal architectural training. His sketches of the initial design of the church were done on sheets of plywood (which are displayed inside the church) and were sent to Ottawa for a building permit, but the federal government officials couldn’t understand the blueprints and sent them back to Inuvik. The Igloo church was constructed with an igloo’s dome design with the hope that the shape would help mitigate any shifts from frost heave.

This was a proof-of-concept modelling of both the interior and exterior of the church, to be rendered in VR.
