Shibukusa Ryuzo Pottery
Hida pottery, known as Shibukusa-yaki, originated in 1841 when the potter Ryuzo Toda was invited by the regional magistrate to open a kiln in the Shibukusa area, celebrated for its excellent potters clay. The Shibukusa Ryuzo kiln, now in its seventh generation, is one of the oldest potteries in Hida and has continued to seek new and modern Shibukusa-yaki designs.
Filmed in Hida, located in Gifu, Japan. We were invited along to meet with two brothers who continue to carry on with the family tradition of art and pottery, now in its 7th generation within the family. The visit was to film a collaboration between the brothers and a natural, ethical and organic skincare brand based in Scotland and Japan. The resulting footage was never actually put together into a film, and rather the footage from the pottery brothers was used to promote their heritage and business. There are plans to finally put together a film of that amazing visit to the beautiful countryside of Gifu, Japan.
